What We Do

Advocacy
The core of our work, the Advocacy Program is comprised of two main components: State Legislative Advocacy, driven by the State Legislative Committee and the membership as a whole; and Federal Advocacy, driven by the Federal Legislative Committee. Activities of the program include:

  • Regular meetings of the State and Federal Legislative Committees to develop advocacy agendas, generate strategies, and make decisions on urgent policy issues
  • Annual Meeting of the Membership to approve the State Legislative Agenda
  • Regular reports on legislation during the State legislative session.

Communication and Information
The Communication and Information Program seeks to develop proven messages and collect data in support our advocacy work, and the work of our member organizations. Activities of the program include:

Mobilization and Outreach
Central to our advocacy work is the mobilization of people across the state who care about affordable housing and supportive services. For over a decade, the Alliance has hosted Housing and Homelessness Advocacy Day in Olympia. Now, we’re developing new ways of connecting with current and potential advocates inside and outside the affordable housing community. Activities of this program include:

  • Implementation of the NLIHC Voterization Program through housing providers across the state
  • Housing and Homelessness Advocacy Day
  • Development of partnerships with organizations outside of the housing community whose issue areas are affected by Washington’s affordable housing problem
  • Online alerts and calls to action around affordable housing and supportive services policy.
