Title: Outreach and Mobilization Associate
Reports To: Outreach and Mobilization Manager
Summary: This position will help implement the Housing Alliance’s outreach and mobilization program to increase the number  and diversity of voices working toward the goal of providing an affordable home for everyone in Washington. This includes supporting the mobilization of advocates. Mobilizing and engaging a strong base of advocates is critical to achieving our mission and central to what we do.

Primary Responsibilities: The Alliance is a collaborative work environment where all employees participate in planning and carrying out the organization’s mission and goals. This position is specifically responsible for the following:
 
Coordinate Housing and Homelessness Advocacy Day:
• Coordinate turnout and registration;
• Prepare written and other materials;
• Coordinate with speakers, volunteers, vendors, and other partners. 
• Support non-partisan voter registration and mobilization program:
• Develop partners in local communities;
• Provide training for agency staff and volunteers;
• Develop and disseminate voter materials;
• Recruit, train, and support volunteers to do voter registration and Get Out the Vote efforts;
• Track newly registered voters and voter turnout.
 
Support electoral (501 c4) activities of the Washington Housing Alliance Action Fund:
• The Housing Alliance has recently started a sister c4 organization that will engage in electoral work to support candidates that are leaders on our issues. The Outreach and Mobilization Associate will spend a limited amount of time supporting the volunteer and mobilization efforts of the c4 and other activities as needed.
 
Engage in development and execution of mobilization activities, including:
• Monthly member calls;
• Trainings on civic engagement, housing and homelessness policy, and related areas;
• Leadership development activities and training for advocates focusing on key areas across the state;
• Member recruitment activities.
 
Support electronic advocacy:
• Assist in preparation of alerts and emails;
• Support development and maintenance of online advocacy tools;
• Support overall increase of the number and diversity of online relationships.
 
Other:
• Support Outreach and Mobilization Manager as needed;
• Conduct outreach presentations to identify and engage new advocates;
• Participate in other organizational efforts including fundraising, membership development, reporting and other activities as directed.
 
Desired Qualifications:
• Demonstrated commitment to social justice and/or low-income housing and homelessness advocacy;
• College graduate or commensurate experience;
• At least 2 years experience in community organizing or experience mobilizing people for public policy advocacy, campaign management, or voter registration/mobilization;
• Demonstrated experience with event planning/coordination;
• Ability and desire to work with a diverse range of people;
• Demonstrated ability to work in a cooperative and collaborative environment;
• Ability to work independently while maintaining a strong organizational identity and relationships with co-workers;
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills;
• Strong computer skills and an understanding of and commitment to using technology to create social change;
• Ability and willingness to travel within the state, with occasional overnight stays and occasional evening and weekend hours;
• A sense of humor and grace under pressure are highly desired.
