Kate McMullen, Director of Development

Hello Washington Low Income Housing Alliance supporters, members, and allies.

My name is Kate McMullen, and I am the new Director of Development for the Housing Alliance and Housing Action Fund. I come to the Housing Alliance from the Denise Louie Education Center, an early learning and family support nonprofit serving low-income and immigrant children and families. My career began in Washington, D.C. with the Pew Charitable Trusts in their state policy department. Upon moving to Seattle, I had the privilege of fundraising for Housing Alliance revenue coalition partner, Washington State Budget & Policy Center and NARAL Pro-Choice Washington.

I am excited to return to building effective advocacy movements and asking individuals like you across Washington State to join and support our effort to ensure everyone has the opportunity to live in a safe, healthy, affordable home.

While I'm learning the ropes at the Housing Alliance and adjusting to my Mac computer (I actually miss ctrl + alt + del!), I've had the chance to review some of the impressive achievements the Housing Alliance helped make possible in Olympia this past year.

  • Securing funding for the Housing Trust Fund
  • Preserving/Expanding funding for homelessness services
  • Eliminating barriers to new housing for domestic violence survivors

Lastly, having worked with a variety of boards in the Seattle area, I am truly excited by The Board Advocacy Project (BAP), funded by the Campion Foundation. Realizing that there are more than 5,000 community leaders on the boards of housing and homelessness organizations across the state who are an untapped resource for effective advocacy, BAP works to better engage with these board members so they can play a pivotal role in the movement to ensure a home for everyone in Washington.

I am looking forward to hopefully meeting many of you at our Annual Member Meeting on Wednesday, December 4. In the meantime, please reach out at anytime to katem(@)wliha(.)org or 206.442.9455 x201.
